I have long sworn that this journal would always remain G or PG-rated, to accomodate everyone who loves its subject matter the way I do. Unfortunately, I have discovered over the course of time that this policy is putting some truly unbearable restrictions on my art and causing my personal reflection of the characters I love to be incomplete at best and inauthentic at worst. So it changes now-- hopefully for the better.
This is an illo from my yet-to-be-posted epic fanfic. There are some unusual things to be found in Valinor, and poor old Sam gets frightened by an encounter with a very strange being. He's still shaking at nightfall. Frodo gives him love and comfort until he can finally relax and sleep. :)
Part of the sheer genius of Tolkien is that everyone can enjoy their own distinct and personal version of Sam and Frodo. My version of this pairing tends to be less "hot" than many of the lovely movie-based variations I've seen. Overall, I want them to generate more light than heat. Still, I also very much want them to be able to freely partake of all the wonders and joys that are offered to them as living beings-- especially poor Frodo, who has suffered so much and deserves to be with his willing soul mate in any way he needs and wants. I see this all as utterly innocent, and I can only hope that all my present and future portrayals of the more sensual side of their love are found to be respectful. :)

Date: 2018-02-15 04:57 am (UTC)But I tell you this to say that the fact that I find this tastefully done and capturing a certain enchanting sweetness should reassure you that you are not doing anything horrible by posting what you're working on.
I appreciate your desire to accommodate all lovers of our dear hobbits. :) It's admirable and honorable and truly sweet. But - it's your journal, and it's your art, and you can always do like this and put it under a cut with a warning, like this. I knew what I was getting into. I had the freedom not to click. And I am not offended. So - your journal, do what you please. :)
*hugs snugs* I think this is actually one of my favorites of your Frodo portrayals. There's a lovely fragility to his strength here. I'd love to see more with this model some time. :)
Love you, sugar. :)

Date: 2018-02-15 06:13 am (UTC)Over the passage of the last six years it has become apparent to me that I am slowly but surely developing a bit of actual artistic ability, however tenuous and uncertain, and with it comes the responsibility to use it well. One of my main goals when doing any art involving Frodo and Sam is to be very careful to respect these wonderful storybook characters and to not make anything that would cheapen or mar their precious magic. I do not feel I have harmed them here, but rather have given them a moment to be close.
Besides the characters themselves, I also need to respect my individual vision and desires, as well as everyone who might stumble upon my journal. It's been very difficult for me to achieve a balance, and for this past year I only managed to do so by ignoring some of my very dearest romantic wishes, which I have carried close in my heart since my school days forty years ago. But in the end, as you say, it is my journal and my art. Something finally had to give, and I am so glad you're not offended! :)
(I just hope those funky cut tags always work!! I wish Dreamwidth would make them easier to manage. :P )
The Frodo model is my new Generation 8 figure. As you probably know, I always use a female base model for Frodo to achieve that fragile, fey effect. The base here is a Victoria 4 variant called Aiko 4. She's an anime girl, and if you think of the shape of the anime faces you see on TV, you can just barely see that reflected in the face of my Frodo. :)

Thanks again for a lovely comment. *Hugs you* :)
