"The Road Through Mordor"

Captured by orcs, Frodo and Sam struggle through Mordor disguised as soldiers of Sauron's army. 

I am happy with this artwork.  It was made during an intense 48-hour period during which I did nothing but paint, eat, and sleep.  By the time I was done my eyes were almost swollen shut and I was exhausted, but I felt it was worth it.  

This scene has always resided very vividly in my imagination.  When I was being bullied in high school and crushed against the lockers in the press of bodies in the crowded hallways, I never failed to flash back to the image of those poor hobbits, tormented by orcs.

This evokes a lot of emotion and memories of suffering that same sort of treatment in school. Sometimes it's necessary to suffer for our art.

Those are strong, vivid scenes and so is your artwork. The gentle hobbits endured such harsh treatment and I think you capture very well the bestial nature of the orcs, as well as Frodo and Sam's struggle to survive the cruelty.

Yes. Processing our suffering and trying to make some sense of it is such an important aspect of making art.

I'm very sorry you had to go through that as well. :( And to think this backward nation still can't fully agree that anti-bullying initiatives are a good thing!
