Incredible 'Bahubali' Music Video!
May. 11th, 2017 10:32 pmThe hero pursuing a spirit woman through an awe-inspiring mythic landscape!
I have watched Indian cinema off and on for twenty years and with this I can see that it has finally come of age. Without copying anything I've read exactly, this sequence contains some of the heroic and romantic essence of those magnificent books I love so much-- the various Puranas, the Gitagovinda, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata. This is why I once taught myself to read and write Sanskrit, however clumsily. To my knowledge there is no Western equivalent to the sheer beauty and power of Indian myth (or pseudo-myth) except for Tolkien. I am so glad the people of India are able to fully express the essence of their mythos on the big screen at long last. It is valuable, and just from this brief glimpse I can see that it has a very bright future indeed. :)
Please forgive me for cross posting...

Date: 2017-05-13 08:05 am (UTC)There are a lot of gorgeous historic movies and TV series from India, but with the older shows the FX are of course somewhat lacking. The landscapes of this music video and the film trailers I've seen are much more in line with the stupendous visuals contained in the ancient books. It should be great fun for you to discuss with your co-worker!
And it does sound like I would enjoy the cultural treats your town offers. I would love to spend an afternoon in a sari shop :)
