"Queen of the Mermaids"

It's not hobbits, so whether it belongs on this page is questionable, but it's inspired by my recent discovery of Tolkien's mermaids.  I was perusing 'The Book of Lost Tales, vol. 1" and there she was-- Ui Oarista, Queen of the Mermaids!  

I didn't know Arda had mermaids!   ^_^;

Done on DAZ Studio and GIMP, with extensive use of Ron's wave and water brushes.   

(Sitting here miserable with what I really hope is just a cold)

omg, this is so beautiful and magical!!!! I didn't realize Tolkien had mermaids either! (Perhaps you haven't known me long enough to know that I just love love love mermaids!!)

Thank you so much! ^_^ It's my first attempt at using the newer G2F figures. This one gave me trouble in Carrara, even though it's supposed to work.

I'm glad you like mermaids, because I've got more that I need to get around to posting on my other site. Did you see the one I posted of my OC Auriel as a mer-elf? ;)

I'm digging up loads of gold right now from the "Unfinished Tales" volumes. I've saved these books for a rainy day for as long as I can remember, and am finally starting in on them. Volume 1 gives more details on Valinor and Tol Eressea than I could ever remember at one sitting, so now it's perched next to my art computer. Tol Eressea turns out to have been absolutely central to his early work and he gives some wonderful geographical descriptions of the island (heavily influenced by real places in England.)

Even though "Unfinished Tales" are the Professor's first drafts of various events and places in his world, I am going with a self-made rule that the finer details, such as his description of the sea birds inhabiting high cliffs on Tol Eressea, or the golden jeweled sands of Valinor's mainland beaches, still stand unless he went out of his way to make a later correction. :D

I hope I feel better tomorrow too, but from the severity of this my guess is I'll be down for several days :P

That's lovely! I didn't know of Tolkien's mermaids, but of course the sea is very important to the tales I do know.

My nose is a little better, but the cold is now in my chest :P
