Down From the Mountain
Dec. 6th, 2016 09:22 amThis painting depicts Aragorn receiving Frodo and Sam when they were rescued from Mount Doom. It's a bit busy, but I learned a lot while making it. I have always wished that Tolkien had given us more details of what is one of the most dramatic moments of the epic.

In fact I was very much thinking of the Pieta when I did this, and also Sam's pose is a little similar to poor St. Sebastian (although I think Boromir might have been a more appropriate subject to practice on.) I appreciate your positive reaction, as I am a little shy of posting my more "religious" LOtR art. Thanks to you I will now cross my fingers and post another such painting shortly. :)
One thing I simply must know-- where did you get that avatar with those darling little monks and their cats? That's the cutest thing I've seen in days! ^_^
