"Off the Bridge Quick!"

After they escape the tower of Cirith Ungol, Sam and Frodo are forced to jump off a bridge, but in the darkness they can't see what's underneath.   It's a classic 'leap of faith' and I'm surprised I don't see more depictions of this memorably terrifying moment.

Thanks very much! :) I think the only other depiction of this I've seen, is a kind of half-hearted one in the Rankin-Bass ROTK animation.

Y'know, I do believe you're right. I think there is a sort of nod to it in RB. Hadn't thought about that in a while, prolly b/c it's been a few months since I watched it....

I love the colors you used, they add so much to the drama of their escape; as you say, it was a leap of faith on their part! Lovely!

Thank you so much! ^_^ The colors are as described by the Professor; he was so visual in his descriptions! :) Unfortunately it took so long to set up the models and colors for this, that I kind of skimped on the hobbits' accessories. They need helmets and swords ^^;

Wow, this is awesome!! I don't think I've ever seen a depiction of it before. I remember quite vividly the first time I read this scene when I was 13 years old, and exactly what a heart-in-mouth moment it was.

You really capture the intensity so well, with the shadowy Orc figures looming in the background and the way Sam's hands are free in the air and his shield is falling.

You mentioned "The Black Stallion" on another thread. Remember the scene where the Black leaps off the deck of the sinking ship and disappears into the fog? That's just how I imagine this bridge jump :) Unfortunately my software was not being obedient that day when it came to simulating the right kind of atmospheric layers to achieve the effect.
