"The Primrose" iRay render :)
Mar. 13th, 2018 07:58 amIn the language of flowers, primroses mean "I Will Protect You From All Harm." There could hardly be a more appropriate flower for these two. :)
iRay is quickly spoiling me for other renderers. I'm looking back at all my old stuff and realizing how much better it would have been if I had been willing to experiment a bit more with this renderer when it was first issued last year. Oh, well... Hopefully there will be a lot more pics to come!
This image features a half-finished Sam. I need a more sensual face for him now that I can render him in high definition, so I've started from scratch yet again. This face doesn't cut it yet, but it's fine for this pic. I like the lips and chin, but the eyes and brow need work. I may end up putting him into one of Victoria's skins too, as they have more detail around the eyes (see Frodo.) It doesn't help that I've never ever had a really concrete image of what Sam looks like-- when I think of him, I just see warm fuzzies! :)
I've gotten more control over the satin lining of Frodo's vest, which was giving me a lot of trouble. I can see the material shaders are going to be one of the biggest challenges of iRay. Lots more work to come before I really get the hang of this-- volumetric atmospheres and fog shading are next. At least Frodo's looking a bit more cheerful now. Sam will do that :)

Date: 2018-03-14 03:27 am (UTC)I agree, Sam should definitely be less aristocratic than Frodo. The main problem I'm having with this model is the eye region. It's the eyelids and the corneas. The upper eyelids are not quite working right, while the corneas look like they're affecting the lower eyelids. I hope to spend this pleasant evening figuring it out. :)

Date: 2018-03-14 02:21 pm (UTC)I've been using the fuzzy hair for my Older Sam model and have been liking it, so I thought I'd try it for awhile on Younger Sam. I guess now I can call him Fuzzy Sam! :D I find the contrast between him and Frodo pleasing.
Both of these hairstyles are older models using transmapping, and they're not optimized for iRay, so they're not turning out to be very realistic here. I could try applying strand hair, but that's physical and would slow down the machine even more. My only other options are to purchase some iRay hair (unlikely due to expense) or to figure out how to optimize the existing models. I'm opting for the latter, but right now my interest is being diverted by atmospheric volume, which is a very important tool I can't do without, and which I have no idea how to do in iRay! ^^;
